Krommenhoek Metals and the social enterprise BGS Schiedam complement each other

Krommenhoek Metals, a metal recycling company based in Rotterdam, and BGS, a social enterprise based in Schiedam, entered into a strong partnership last May to collect and dismantle old computers and other discarded electronic devices.

Computer Disassembly and Recycling

Krommenhoek Metals has specialized in the collection and recycling of old computers for many years. Whereas old computers or PC cases used to be destroyed and processed by shredders, this work is now expertly done by hand by the employees of BGS in Schiedam. This allows the various components of old computers and other electronic devices to be neatly sorted and then distributed by Krommenhoek Metals to specialized processors and smelters around the world.

BGS is Schiedam’s leading social enterprise, with over 600 employees. Many of these employees face barriers to the labor market due to a physical and/or mental disability. However, dismantling old computer cabinets and server racks, for example, is an excellent challenge that BGS employees are eager to take on. In this way, the business community and the government come together in a powerful partnership, with “growing together” and “corporate social responsibility” among the key priorities.
