What is the price of scrap aluminum?

The price of scrap aluminum fluctuates daily and depends on global supply and demand. At Krommenhoek Metals, we keep a close eye on these developments. We base our prices on factors such as the London Metal Exchange (LME), price trends, and current demand from European aluminum smelters. Consider, for example, rising car sales or the increase in electric vehicles—both of which drive up demand for aluminum and thus lead to higher prices. With us, you’ll always receive a fair price, tailored to today’s market. This applies not only to the price of aluminum, but also to the prices of scrap iron, copper, and scrap lead, among others.

The price of 1 kg of aluminum

The price you receive for 1 kilogram of aluminum depends heavily on the type of scrap you turn in. For clean and pure aluminum, such as sheet metal or profiles, you’ll generally receive more than for mixed or contaminated types, such as cast aluminum or household scrap. Aluminum rims, a common item, also fetch an attractive price, provided they’re free of tires and contaminants. On our pricing page, you can see the current aluminum prices by type. About Aluminum

Aluminum is one of the most widely used metals worldwide. It has a wide range of applications. You’ll find aluminum in cars, airplanes, building structures, traffic signs, offset plates, light poles, window frames, and even in your household appliances. The term“scrap aluminum”is used to refer to old and discarded aluminum.

Demand for aluminum is expected to remain high or even increase in the coming years. The world’s population is still growing. Moreover, prosperity is on the rise in large parts of the world, which also has a significant impact on the use and disposal of scrap aluminum. Consider, for example, the increase in soft drink consumption and, consequently, the use of aluminum cans. Closer to home, we’re seeing more and more solar panels appearing on roofs in the Netherlands and across Europe. They’re all mounted on aluminum frames.

Primary and secondary aluminum scrap

We distinguish between two main categories of aluminum:

  • Primary scrap: such as profiles, offset sheets, and pure wire. These high-quality grades are often linked to LME prices and are widely used in the construction and packaging industries.
  • Secondary scrap: such as pots, pans, cast aluminum, ladders, and wheel rims. These types of scrap are primarily processed into engine parts and technical castings for the automotive industry.

Both categories are valuable, and we carefully separate them and price them fairly. Thanks to our end-of-waste certification, we are able to supply this scrap as raw material to reputable foundries.
