What do you get in exchange for your old particulate filters?

Many people don’t realize that an old diesel particulate filter (DPF) has value. The ceramic or cordierite interior contains a coating of platinum and palladium, similar to that found in a catalytic converter, though usually in lower concentrations. The price depends on the type of vehicle, its age, and the actual precious metal content as measured. Diesel DPFs from passenger cars yield less than those from trucks or buses. At Krommenhoek Metals, we determine the value through spectral analysis, not by guesswork. Request a quote based on the serial number or send a photo via WhatsApp for an initial estimate.

Everything You Need to Know About Particulate Filter Recycling

A soot filter, or diesel particulate filter (DPF), is found in virtually every modern diesel car. It captures soot particles from the exhaust gases and burns them at high temperatures. The ceramic core contains a thin coating of platinum and palladium—precious metals with significant market value. A discarded soot filter is therefore not waste, but a raw material.

At Krommenhoek Metals, we buy used particulate filters and process them responsibly. We determine their value based on the type of vehicle, the age of the filter, and the actual precious metal content as measured. Not sure what your filter is worth? Send a photo via WhatsApp, and our buyers will take a look with you.

How does particulate filter recycling work?

  1. You can drop off the particulate filter at one of our locations or have it picked up through our container service.
  2. We check the type and determine the precious metal content.
  3. You'll receive a fair price right away, either in cash or by bank transfer.
  4. The filter enters our certified process, during which platinum and palladium are recovered.

Here's how to return your particulate filters

Do you have a used particulate filter left over after a replacement? Just bring it to one of our locations in Rotterdam or Wateringen. We’ll weigh it, measure it, and pay you on the spot. Send us a photo of the serial number and vehicle type via WhatsApp beforehand, and we’ll give you a quick price estimate.

For garages, truck repair shops, and scrap yards with a regular supply of materials, we arrange periodic pickup or container service. For larger batches, we’ll come to your location with an XRF meter to immediately determine the platinum and palladium content, so you don’t have to rely on an estimate. We settle the purchase price per item or per batch, depending on what works best for your bookkeeping.
