Scrap Prices

Scrap prices for iron scrap are determined by market forces—or, simply put, supply and demand. There are various ways to calculate these prices. For example, there are long-term agreements in which the price adjusts monthly based on an independent index. Of course, in the event of a sudden change in market conditions, material can be traded at market price. For non-ferrous metals, such as copper, the actual supply-and-demand ratio is also decisive for the price. These prices are often agreed upon using a formula based on the LME (London Metal Exchange).

This depends entirely on global demand for raw materials. If demand exceeds supply, the price of scrap will rise. If supply exceeds demand, the market price for scrap will generally fall.
