Krommenhoek Metals informeert trots al haar klanten, leveranciers en zakenpartners dat wij actief samenwerken met verschillende organisaties om internationaal maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen te stimuleren en om ernstige negatieve effecten voor mens en milieu, gelinkt aan de metaalketen, aan te pakken. Die effecten zouden wij onmogelijk alleen kunnen aanpakken. Deze multi-stakeholder samenwerking verloopt via het Internationaal MVO-convenant voor de Metaalsector, wat ons ook in staat stelt om een bijdrage te leveren aan de realisatie van de Sustainable Development Goals van de Verenigde Naties. Andere deelnemende organisaties zijn bedrijven, de overheid, brancheverenigingen, niet-gouvernementele organisaties en vakbonden.
Als sinds 1925 is Krommenhoek gespecialiseerd in metaalrecycling. Het is onze missie om de ’’Service in Schroot’’ slogan te waarborgen in alles wat wij doen. Zo optimaliseren wij de metaalrecycling stromen van industrie en productie bedrijven tot een hoogwaardige secundaire grondstof voor gieterijen door heel Europa en ver daarbuiten. Door onze inspanningen hoeven er minder primaire grondstoffen uit de aarde gewonnen te worden door mijnen. Daarnaast draagt de recycling van oude metalen bij aan de wereldwijde reductie van maar liefst 500 miljoen ton CO² uitstoot.
Niet alle ingezamelde metaalrestanten kunnen rechtstreeks afgezet worden naar smelterijen. Soms vinden er nog bewerkingen plaats aan de metalen alvorens het optimaal gerecycled kan worden. Deze activiteiten gebeuren machinaal of handmatig in lage lonen landen buiten Europa.
Metalen zijn essentieel voor de productie van verschillende goederen en technologieën en zijn cruciaal voor de transitie naar schone en duurzame energie. De uitvoering van het convenant zal worden toegewijd aan:
- Bedrijven door deze te voorzien van de nodige kennis, instrumenten en andere hulpmiddelen en/of tools, zodat zij in staat zijn om potentiële risico’s in hun toeleveringsketen (van mijnbouw tot recycling) te begrijpen en aan te pakken.
- Het identificeren en aanpakken van potentiële risico’s in de toeleveringsketen van secundaire grondstoffen. (schroot)
- Relevante actoren in de metaalketen (op nationaal en internationaal niveau) aan te moedigen om de OESO-richtlijnen voor Multinationale Ondernemingen en het VN-verdrag voor Bedrijfsleven en Mensenrechten te respecteren en hiernaar te handelen.

Krommenhoek Metals b.v. is working on responsible supply chains in the metals sector
Krommenhoek Metals is proud to inform all its customers, suppliers and business partners that we actively cooperate with various organisations to promote corporate social responsibility internationally and to address the serious negative impact that the metals sector has on people and the environment. It would be impossible for us to tackle those effects on our own. This multi-stakeholder collaboration operates via the International Responsible Business Agreement for the Metals Sector, [ET&V1] which also gives us the opportunity of helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Other participating organisations include businesses, government authorities, industry associations, non-governmental organisations and trade unions.
Krommenhoek has specialised in metal recycling since 1925. Our mission is to live up to our ’’Service in Scrap’’ slogan in everything we do. For example, we optimise the metal recycling flows from industry and production companies to produce a high-quality secondary raw material for foundries throughout Europe and in more distant markets. Thanks to our efforts, fewer primary raw materials need to be extracted by mining. In addition, recycling used metals helps to reduce global CO² emissions by no less than 500 million tons.
Not all of the used metals collected for recycling can be sold directly to foundries. They sometimes have to be processed before optimal recycling is possible. These activities are carried out mechanically or manually in low-wage countries outside Europe.
Metals are essential for producing many types of goods and for many technologies, and play a crucial role in the transition to clean and sustainable energy. The aims of the agreement are to:
- give businesses the knowledge, instruments and other tools and/or resources they need to identify and address potential risks in their supply chain (ranging from mining to recycling).
- identify and address potential risks in the secondary raw materials supply chain (scrap metal).
- encourage relevant actors in the metals sector (at national and international level) to respect and act in accordance with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Convention on Business and Human Rights.
Krommenhoek Metals calls on all our customers, suppliers and business partners to support our efforts and work with us to forge responsible supply chains in the metals sector. For example, we recently developed a sustainability tool for all our customers. We will send you further details soon.
